Q33: What are the goals and objectives of the JFGE?

A: JFGE's goals and objectives are summed up in the following three points.

First, the JFGE is a realization of the announcement made by Japan at the 1992 Earth Summit to make international contributions toward global environmental conservation. Therefore, one of the important pillars of the JFGE activities is the support of NGO projects for environmental conservation in developing regions with immediate needs.

Second, the JFGE is an attempt to strengthen Japan's involvement in global environmental conservation. Our lifestyles and economic activities have become catalysts for global environmental problems and the involvement of each citizen at a basic level is necessary in order to counter them.

Although the role of NGOs working for environmental conservation under non-government leadership, including environmental cooperation at grassroots levels for developing nations, is extremely important, it cannot be said that the foundation of these environmental NGOs is sufficient in Japan.

Third, based on the above, the JFGE offers people from different fields and classes a chance as a "Global Citizen," to participate actively in environmental NGO projects or to contribute money to support environmental NGO projects.

The ultimate goal of the JFGE is to develop national movements to protect the global environment.
