Background and Purpose
- Develop a system for sorting and supplying collected plastics in collaboration with residents and municipalities to ensure a low-cost, stable supply of high-quality recycled materials.
- Establish a circular model for plastics that focuses on collection and recycling based on manufacturers’ demand, rather than the traditional emission-based recycling system. This aims to create a domestic cycle of high-quality resources and evaluate the effectiveness of resource-collection sites with resident cooperation, as a stable supply source of plastics.
- Demonstrate a sorting center with functions to store, gather, inspect collected plastics, reduce the volume of plastics, convert them into information, and develop a method to provide traceability information for PLA-NETJ (Plastic Networking for Environmental Transformation Japan) concept.
- Utilize social impact evaluation methods to visualize the resolution of local challenges and the improvement of residents’ well-being. This includes benefits beyond the environmental domain, such as enhancing health and creating spaces for children by promoting communication through the collection sites.
