Research and Development Overview
The separation and collection of used plastics is an important challenge for both household waste and business/industrial waste.
For household waste, collection systems for plastic containers, packaging, and products differ by municipality. Private-sector collection initiatives are also expanding, but the number, visibility, and accessibility of collection points vary by region and store.
To address this issue, we will conduct questionnaire surveys in several representative municipalities and compare the results. At the same time, we will identify barriers to proper separation and collection. Through intervention experiments designed to overcome these barriers, we aim to develop recommendations for maximizing plastic collection.
For business and industrial waste, we are collaborating with an electronic equipment manufacturer that is actively working on thorough waste separation and collection practices. We will model the improvement process and test its applicability at other sites to verify its effectiveness.
